I was cutting celery the other day and my 4 year old kept saying, “It’s a flower.”
I couldn’t figure out what she was talking about until she pointed to the end I cut off and said we could make flowers with it.
I was a little surprised and thought, “Well, aren’t you a smartie?!”
We got some paint and paper and got to work.
We just poured a little acrylic craft paint onto a plate and dipped the cut-off part of the celery stalk into it. I had to trim a few of the celery pieces down a little bit so it didn’t transfer as one big blob.
We stamped away and then washed it so we could layer our flowers with a different color.
That gave us this look.
We put them into frames and are going to enjoy them for a while π
So, next time you cut some celery, leave a little time for crafting afterwards π This is a great way to make use of your scraps and have a little fun with your kids (or by yourself!)

Well don’t you two make a great team?!
Wow – what a neat idea! I’m constantly amazed by how creative kids can be and how differently they see things. My son is always saying, “Don’t recycle that Mommy! Let’s make something” whenever I put something in the recycling. I guess we’ve done a lot of arts and crafts with paper towel tubes and such. These “flower” prints are really pretty. I think we’ll give it a go!
Love this cute idea! Found you on hometalk and following you on several channels!
Thanks so much!! I’m looking forward to your projects on hometalk, too!
Super ingenious and cool! Isn’t it great how kids “see” differently than us π Pinning!
They definitely do π
How cute! I love the two tone. . . and I think we have some old celery in the fridge that needs to get used up anyways. Maybe we’ll make some art too!
So cute!!!

Thanks, dear π
Waoowww!!! Gr8 idea. I love smart DIYs. And this project turned out so well. They look so pretty. I am definitely gonna try it. And its perfect for my daughter too. Would be fun.
Thanks…hope you guys have fun!
Those are so pretty. I’ve often looked at the end and thought it looked like a flower, just never got around to getting crafty with it! I’ve heard you can also plunk them in ground to regrow celery.
uh oh that could be dangerous for me to know. My back yard is already filled with random seeds I’ve buried just to see what happens. It’s a crazy garden back there π I might have to try that though!
Haha, sounds fun!
Maggie May is a “smartie” indeed!!
Yes she is π
