A Creative Way to Use Up Your Celery Stalk Ends

I was cutting celery the other day and my 4 year old kept saying, “It’s a flower.”

I couldn’t figure out what she was talking about until she pointed to the end I cut off and said we could make flowers with it.

DSC07051I was a little surprised and thought, “Well, aren’t you a smartie?!”

We got some paint and paper and got to work.

We just poured a little acrylic craft paint onto a plate and dipped the cut-off part of the celery stalk into it. I had to trim a few of the celery pieces down a little bit so it didn’t transfer as one big blob.

We stamped away and then washed it so we could layer our flowers with a different color.

That gave us this look.

We put them into frames and are going to enjoy them for a while πŸ™‚

So, next time you cut some celery, leave a little time for crafting afterwards πŸ™‚ This is a great way to make use of your scraps and have a little fun with your kids (or by yourself!)

  1. Wow – what a neat idea! I’m constantly amazed by how creative kids can be and how differently they see things. My son is always saying, “Don’t recycle that Mommy! Let’s make something” whenever I put something in the recycling. I guess we’ve done a lot of arts and crafts with paper towel tubes and such. These “flower” prints are really pretty. I think we’ll give it a go!

  2. How cute! I love the two tone. . . and I think we have some old celery in the fridge that needs to get used up anyways. Maybe we’ll make some art too!

  3. Waoowww!!! Gr8 idea. I love smart DIYs. And this project turned out so well. They look so pretty. I am definitely gonna try it. And its perfect for my daughter too. Would be fun.

  4. Those are so pretty. I’ve often looked at the end and thought it looked like a flower, just never got around to getting crafty with it! I’ve heard you can also plunk them in ground to regrow celery.

What do you think? I would really love to know!!
